The La Brea Tarpits are an “archeological site” in the middle of Los Angeles. Natural asphalt seeps up through the earth, and this has preserved the bones of extinct animals, which makes it a very interesting place to visit. There are a lot of tar pits that you can go see for free outside the museum (and it totally smells like tar all over the place), but the rel attraction is entering the museum to see all the preserved animals in real life, it is absolutely worth a visit.
